Katherine Davis-Wright, Dr

Teacher of English at The King Edmund School

My name is Katherine Davis-Wright and I’m one of the new conveners for our Languages and Literacies SIG. I am at the end of my Doctorate in Education, preparing for my viva at the end of December, and I also currently work full-time as a Teacher of English in a comprehensive state secondary school in the UK. I have been researching curricular literacies and multimodal literacy practices in the secondary school students in the UK, questioning how creative the ‘creative writing’ section of the GCSE English Language curriculum really is, and how this affects the development of students’ authorial identities. I am particularly interested in extracurricular writing for pleasure, especially in fanfiction and online affinity spaces for writers.
As a teacher, I would like to see more teacher members of ½¿É«µ¼º½, because I believe that teachers should be afforded more opportunities to engage with educational research., and researchers need to work to make this more accessible for teachers, perhaps by running SIG events outside of school teaching hours.
