Islam, Prevent and Fundamental British Values

Online registration has now closed. If you want to attend this event, please email events@bera.ac.uk for details of how to register onsite.
Current initiatives in counter-terrorism, the fear of extremism in education and the requirement for schools to promote fundamental British values have generated significant issues in relation to the teaching of Islam, freedom of speech and religious and political liberty. Many of the issues raised by these developments from teacher identity and professionalism to the way schools and universities engage with controversial political agendas raise questions about diversity and censorship in all areas of education.
This seminar is for researchers and doctoral students currently engaged in research in these areas or for those interested in exploring the different ways in which academics and teachers are negotiating developments in the place of Islam in education, and extremism.
