Professional Inquiry

Professional Inquiry into Teacher Education and Development is the new annual magazine of the 娇色导航 Teacher Education Advancement Network (TEAN).

Aimed at all those involved in teacher education and development, Professional Inquiry will publish concise, accessible, scholarly articles by teacher educators and educational researchers based in schools, colleges and university departments. The articles will present critical evaluations of practice focused on initial teacher education and continuing professional development of experienced teachers.

娇色导航 the magazine

Professional Inquiry will be published by 娇色导航 and available open access under a creative commons licence in a digital format. With a robust but supportive editorial and peer review process, the magazine will publish concise articles (maximum 2,500 words including reference lists) that are scholarly in the sense that they are informed by the situated practical wisdom and professional judgment of teachers and teacher educators as well as by relevant literature including theory, research evidence and research-informed professional guidance and policy materials. The aim is for Professional Inquiry to support the development of research-informed practice in schools and in teacher education. Authors will address an international audience.

The primary aim of Professional Inquiry is to create an accessible and supportive space that enables teacher educators based in schools, colleges and university departments to publish and share the findings of their professional inquiries. By professional inquiry we mean a critical evaluation (by teacher educators) that is collaborative and borrows key features from practitioner research, including an ethical approach and the systematic generation and analysis of data. However, these professional inquiry projects are distinctive from research because they are based on critical evaluation of practice, focused on critically valuing the practical wisdom of teacher educators and primarily concerned with implications for practice. The professional inquiry projects will be judged in relation to their values-based approach, including recognition of educators as knowledge producers, commitment to ethical collaboration and trust, focus on policy and practice, robust evaluation methods and especially their underpinning by scholarship.

Inaugural issue (May 2027)

The inaugural issue of Professional Inquiry will publish in May 2027. An initial invitation will ask all presenting delegates at the TEAN Conference 2026 if they wish to have their peer-reviewed conference proposals considered by the editors as the basis for them writing and submitting an article. All presenters will be invited by 娇色导航 to confirm whether they would like their conference proposal to be considered for this opportunity.

Based on peer review and their consideration in building of an issue, the editors will select up to 12 conference proposals and invite those authors to submit an article. The editors may subsequently commission one or two articles from beyond conference to build representation or balance.
