Educational inequality remains a challenge to social justice in the UK and across the world, and education research has an important role to play in addressing this. In order to do so effectively, educational research must be rigorous, constructive, and engaged. Professor Francis will discuss present inequalities in education, and the various ways in which education research can impact policymaking and practice to encourage equitable directions. Using her research on attainment grouping as a case to illuminate her arguments, Professor Francis will make the case for open-minded research that engages closely with educational practice and policy in order to improve equity.
