20-20 often refers to perfect vision; but the year 2020 has been far from unspoilt with hundreds of millions of students experiencing educational disruption due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Leaders across the education spectrum have been thrust into new roles requiring new ways of thinking and leading. They have been navigating school closures and the provision for remote learning; managing safe reopening and supporting teachers with the recovery so that they can close the educational gaps that were deepened and exposed through the technology divide.
As we speak of vision and leading, hindsight is everything! So as we traverse the dynamics of the present and the potentials for the future what is the prudence countenance needed? This presentation creates a moment to reflect; is leadership enough? It calls for a re-interrogation of the leading practices required for a 21st C education that is contextualized by the crest and trough of crises (public health, environmental disruption and political and social upheaval). Using pictures as a way of entering the conversation, the presentation moves through three spaces of reflection; leading in the now; leading for equity and inclusion and leading for potential.
