Call for proposals: ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog special issue on refugee and asylum-seeking learners

The ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog is delighted to invite proposals from teams of guest editors and authors for a ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog special issue on learners from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds. One proposal will be accepted to go forward to production, with selection made by the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog editorial team.

A special issue of the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog is a collection of between six and eight short-form articles (including an editorial) on a particular theme. In this case, the blog posts would explore the educational experiences of refugee and asylum-seeker learners – including their needs, opportunities and forms of support – across UK contexts and beyond. Contributions might engage with policy, practice (including curriculum and assessment), lived experience and research. We particularly welcome proposals that centre the voices of learners and communities, and that reflect on the role of education in contexts of displacement, migration and resettlement.

How to contribute:

To submit a proposal, please complete this and send it to blog@bera.ac.uk. Please make clear in your email and on the form that the proposal is in response to this specific call. Proposals should include:

  • A coherent thread of the key messages/themes that will be presented in the editorial and reflected in the blog posts
  • A confirmed author team representing diverse perspectives and backgrounds, which includes the voices of practitioners, academics and, if possible, policymakers
  • A brief outline of each proposed blog post, each with a working title (max 50 words each)
  • An indication of the research that informs the editorial and the blog posts.

  • Choice of proposal and feedback to all applicants: week commencing 13 October 2025
  • Deadline for first draft of contributions: 12 DecemberÌý2025
