Doctoral Research: Primary Teachers’ Experiences of Supporting Pupils Facing Adversity

I am recruiting for a doctoral research study exploring how primary teachers experience the emotional demands of supporting pupils facing adversity (e.g., poverty, housing instability, seeking refuge), and how this relates to wellbeing and professional identity.

Ensuring the wellbeing of staff who support vulnerable pupils is a key component of effective safeguarding and whole‑school resilience, and this study seeks to strengthen the evidence base in this area.

    Eligibility:

    • Qualified primary teachers (QTS)
    • Currently working in a mainstream UK primary school
    • Regular direct teaching responsibilities
    • Experience supporting pupils facing adversity (based on professional judgement)

    What participation involves:

    • A short pre‑interview eligibility check
    • A one‑to‑one online interview (approx. 60 minutes)
    • A £20 retail voucher as a thank‑you

The study has received full ethical approval from the University of Leicester Research Ethics Committee. Participation is voluntary and confidential.

Teachers can find further information and express interest via the pre‑interview form:

For any questions, please contact: Georgia Griffin (Trainee Clinical Psychologist @ the University of Leicester) – [email protected]

    Many thanks,

    Georgia
