#BlackLivesMatter and racial justice in education: Contribute to a special series of the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog

The structural inequalities faced by Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities have been deepened by a decade of austerity. We are in the midst of a global pandemic and, following yet another death of an African American through police brutality, the #BlackLivesMatter movement is demanding racial justice through protests across the globe. The ½¿É«µ¼º½ Race, Ethnicity and Education (REE) special interest group community has an opportunity and a responsibility to provide evidence, advice and assistance to all stakeholders in education to help them navigate and contribute to this conversation.

For that reason we are inviting contributions to a special series of the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog, edited by REE, which address the #BLM movement and issues of racial justice in the UK and beyond. We aim for this to be a diverse collection that encompasses subjects such as decolonising education, employing a more diverse workforce, inclusion in decision-making bodies across the education sector, making racial equality part of the curriculum, and more. Contributors are invited to summarise new research, find new applications for existing scholarship, and/or share their opinions, experiences and advice.

We are looking for articles up to 750 words in length (including references) – click here for full submission guidelines for the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Blog. Please send articles to REE co-convenor Nighet Riaz at Nighet.Riaz@uws.ac.uk.

Ideally we would like to receive submissions by 31 July 2020, though we plan to continue to publish on this topic on an ongoing basis to ensure the continuation of these vital debates.
