EDI Policy Officer at University of Glasgow

Dr. Nighet Nasim Riaz is an academic and policy adviser specialising in equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in education. As the EDI Policy Adviser at the University of Glasgow, she leads initiatives to combat racism, foster inclusivity, and drive systemic change across higher education. Holding a PhD in Sociology of Education from the University of the West of Scotland, her research focuses on race, identity, belonging, and social exclusion, with significant contributions to decolonising curricula and addressing ethnic underrepresentation in educational workforces. A published author, Dr. Riaz’s work explores multicultural education and the experiences of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) students, with recent studies examining dissonance and belonging among BME Muslim students in Glasgow schools. Her efforts extend beyond academia through national anti-racism projects and advocacy for meaningful change.
