Call for new members of ½¿É«µ¼º½ Publications Committee

We are pleased to announce the call for new members to apply to join ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s Publications Committee. The closing date for submissions of interest is 9 June 2025.

Committee members are invaluable to the organisation, providing oversight and setting the strategic direction of all publishing activities, which are vital to the financial health and overall priorities of ½¿É«µ¼º½. Members ensure that ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s publications uphold the highest academic standards, follow best practice, respond to new developments and serve the interest of all members and communities within the education field.

Given the fast-changing publishing environment, in terms of open access and beyond, we need fresh eyes and new ideas to help future-proof our portfolio into the next decade. Some publications experience is desirable, particularly journals publishing, although current editors of any journals may need to discuss any potential conflicts of interests as part of the selection process.

½¿É«µ¼º½ Publications Committee members gain knowledge and experience of all aspects of a leading learned society’s publishing and communications activities, and its governance more widely, as well as insider insights into developments in the field and the publishing industry.

The role of the Publications Committee is to:

  • ensure that ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s publications portfolio is well managed and upholds the highest academic standards, keeping ½¿É«µ¼º½ abreast of developments in the publishing field to appropriately develop our publishing portfolio
  • regularly review the balance of the Association’s academic publishing activity, and develop new activities as appropriate
  • act as the editorial board for ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s magazine, Research Intelligence, and the ½¿É«µ¼º½â€“Emerald books series: The ½¿É«µ¼º½ Guides: Critical Insights into Educational Research and Practice, selecting the key themes and reviewing proposals
  • oversee, approve and monitor the editorial arrangements across ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s publications, including the appointment of editors and editorial board members of journals and other publications as appropriate
  • receive and respond to regular reports from publishers on the performance of ½¿É«µ¼º½â€™s journals

We welcome applications from members from any background and stages of their career – senior leaders in education, practitioners or ECRs. The time commitment is four meetings per year (ordinarily three virtual, and one in person; full expenses paid) and there are expectations of contributions to discussions and initiatives on an ongoing basis. There are also opportunities to run ½¿É«µ¼º½ events or attend the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Conference. Candidates must be fully paid-up members of ½¿É«µ¼º½ and remain so throughout their tenure.

As part of our wider commitment to greater equality and diversity at all levels of the organisation, we continue to seek increased representation from members with a racially minoritised background. We acknowledge the imbalances and inequities are often further exacerbated in the publications world, and wish to be proactive in offering publishing opportunities and are confident that ½¿É«µ¼º½ will benefit from the advantages that diversity brings.
