Professor Divya Jindal-Snape is Personal Chair of Education, Inclusion and Life Transitions in the School of Education and Social Work, at the University of Dundee. She gained her undergraduate and masters qualifications in India. She taught in an all-through school and lectured in Education at Meerut University for a few years before moving to Japan to do a PhD at the University of Tsukuba. After that she moved to work at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Her research interests lie in the field of inclusion, educational and life transitions, creativity, health education, voice and comics. Her research has led to creation of educational resources to enhance inclusion and facilitate transitions through drama (inspired by Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed), stories, games, comics and other creative art forms.

Divya Jindal-Snape is Director of the Research Centre and leads on the International Network of Transitions Researchers. Her research has highlighted the positive, dynamic and complex nature of transitions with the need to understand them as (i) on-going process of psychological, social and educational adaptation (ii) over time (iii) due to changes in context, interpersonal relationships and identity, (iv) which can be both exciting and worrying, at the same time, and (v) require on-going support to ensure the wellbeing of the individual and their significant others, such as family, peers and professionals. Her research-based transitions theories are:

2. Multiple and Multi-dimensional Transitions (MMT) Theory

She has acted as research consultant for Communities Scotland, Dundee International Women’s Centre, Volunteer Development Scotland, Scottish Centre for Research in Community Learning and Development, University of Surrey and Youth Link. She has collaborated on research projects and publications internationally, for example in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria, New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Romania, France, Spain, Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, India, China and Japan.

She is Associate Director, Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (University of Edinburgh) and  was Adviser for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.

Divya is interested in doctoral applications in the areas of educational (all educational stages) and life transitions, complex health conditions and disabilities, inclusion, health education and creativity.
