Hermione Xin Miao (she/they) recently completed her PhD viva in University of Stirling in January 2024. Her thesis has a focus on teacher agency and curriculum making. She used to be a geography teacher herself before returning to higher education to pursue a doctorate degree. Hermione also actively advocates equity, diversity and inclusion in her research and practice. From February 2023, she started a Mapping Inspirational Women initiative as open educational resources for re-telling women's stories in maps, blogs, tweets and podcasts.
As a first-generation college student and an international doctoral researcher living in Scotland, Hermione has been actively involved with SERA since 2022 and has been a co-convenor in the SERA ECR network since 2023. She features ECR as E for Edit your writing workshop, C for Conversations with Scholars and R for reading club. Together with other co-convenors, Hermione aims to build the SERA ECR network as a hub for peer support and learning.
