Distinguished Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith is an educator, scholar, writer and mentor. She is from Ng膩ti Awa, Ng膩ti Porou and Tuhourangi tribes in Aotearoa New Zealand. Professor Smith is known for her work on Decolonising research methodologies, Indigenous education and Kaupapa M膩ori. She currently leads a newly established research kai (food) institute that focuses on revitalising M膩ori knowledge and on kai sovereignty and security.
Professor Smith is a member of the Waitangi Tribunal. She is a Fellow of the American Education Research Association, a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and an Honorary International Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Distinguished Professor Smith鈥檚 current research spans inter-generational trauma, Crown and Government engagement frameworks with M膩ori and food sovereignty.
