Melanie Darmanin, Dr

Dr Melanie Darmanin is a Senior Lecturer in Early Years and Vocational Education at the Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST). After completing her bachelor’s degree, she pursued a Master of Arts, specialising in early childhood education. Melanie later earned her doctoral certification at the University of Sheffield, where her research focused on constructions of reading and writing in the digital age. She actively mentors students in their research endeavours and has published on topics such as digital literacy, communication practices within childcare settings, educational accommodations, and physical activity. Melanie serves as a teaching placement examiner, assessing students during their practical teaching experiences as part of their degree or Master’s programme. She has also recently served as a board examiner for various Master’s programmes, conducting viva examinations. This year, through an international selection process, Melanie was chosen to join the College of Reviewers for the European Early Childhood Education Research Journal (EECERAJ) for 2025. Beyond academia, she has also contributed to early literacy by authoring children’s books in Maltese.
