Dr Naomi S. Alphonsus is a researcher in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) whose work examines how education policy, occupational knowledge, and institutional structures shape the relationship between education and work. She holds a PhD in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where her doctoral research analysed South Africa鈥檚 occupational qualifications system, assessing how regulatory templates and curriculum structures support鈥攐r constrain鈥攖he development of specialised knowledge and occupational capacity. Her work draws on theories of expertise, the social organisation of occupations, and vocational curriculum design. Dr Alphonsus has over nine years of dedicated research experience across academic, consulting, and regulatory environments. She is currently a Researcher in the TVET Cluster at the University of Derby鈥檚 Institute of Education and Skills, and concurrently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of the Western Cape under the NRF Chair for TVET Teaching and Learning. Her work includes contributing to international doctoral networks, developing research on expertise in vocational colleges, and advancing comparative insights into skills formation systems.
