SIG Meet & Discuss: English in Education

It’s an exciting but challenging time for those in the subject English community: 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading; curriculum developments resulting from the Curriculum & Assessment Review are in train; the affordances of and dilemmas around technology (AI; phone bans in schools) continue to foster debate. English in Education SIG members are invited to come together to meet and discuss these and any other topic in which they are engaged.

In this forum we aim to get to know each other better and spark connections and conversations. We hope to reach consensus on which aspects members would most like to focus, leading to our facilitation of a series of SIG events. These might include but are not limited to: events in which we will collaborate to offer critical perspectives on policy; sharing of research in a particular areas; a SIG book group.

We particularly welcome those starting their MA or doctoral journey in the field and we hope that the SIG will help them to feel part of a wider community of researchers and practitioners.

To be included in the Pecha-Kutcha, please send a single PowerPoint slide to Lorna Smith ([email protected]) by 11th May. The slide should include:

  • your name
  • your affiliation
  • your current research interests and/or projects
