Adrian Fernandes teaches on the University of Oxford PGCE English course as a Doctoral Teaching Fellow. Adrian’s interest in curriculum change, social justice and representation was shaped by 12 years of teaching English in secondary schools, including nearly seven years leading an English department. He completed his ESRC-funded MSc in Education at the University of Oxford, with his dissertation on English Teachers’ Journeys Since the 2020 Iteration of Black Lives Matter winning the UKLA Student Research Prize 2025.
His ESRC-funded DPhil (PhD) research examines the barriers that teachers face in delivering more representative texts, with a specific focus upon teacher education programmes.
