Ammal Gillani, Miss

Senior Lecturer in Education at Brunel University of London

Ammal Gillani is the Programme Lead and Senior Lecturer in Education at Brunel University London, where she oversees and teaches on the PGCE Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme. She is also an active member of the university鈥檚 Education, Identities and Society research group.
With over 12 years of experience in primary education across diverse London boroughs, Ammal combines extensive classroom practice with strong theoretical insight. Her research interests focus on educational inequality, social justice, culture, and identity.
Ammal earned her master鈥檚 in Education, Policy and Society from King鈥檚 College London. Her MA research employed an intersectionality lens to examine the impact of Covid-19 on the attainment of disadvantaged pupils, providing a nuanced understanding of structural inequalities in education.
Currently, Ammal is pursuing an EdD, where her research explores innovative approaches to teaching social justice through the use of picture books.
