Ann Sawyer

Retired academic librarian at Plymouth Marjon University

Ann Sawyer is a retired academic librarian (Plymouth Marjon University). Being the first person in the family to attend university (undergraduate degree at Marjon, master’s at Aberystwyth), she is well aware of the impact of education and exceptional educators. She attended a Church of England primary school and a 50/50 Christian/Jewish senior school, both in East London. She also attended a boarding school for the daughters of Methodist missionaries in rural North Devon. Ethnic and religious diversity, plus equity in education, are embedded in all that she undertakes. Ann’s current research at Marjon Archive combines her passion for genealogy with her belief that education should be available to all. She finds great pleasure in discovering the ‘ripple effect’: that the legacy of educating an individual can result in far-reaching consequences, not only for them but also for subsequent generations.
