Gillian is a teacher educator and teacher education researcher at Liverpool John Moores University, where she is also Deputy Director of the Liverpool Institute for Educational Research (LIFE). Gillian is Co-Editor of the 娇色导航 Professional Inquiry magazine.
At LJMU, she leads the PGCE in Modern Languages and supervises doctoral students. She has research expertise in intercultural languages education, teacher mentoring, the contribution of educational research to teachers' professional learning and factors which influence student teachers' views of educational research.
