College of Reviewers
Professor Lynn Ang is Professor of Early Childhood Education at UCL Institute of Education. Professor Ang has a long standing career as a senior academic leader for over two decades as former Pro-Director and Vice-Dean Research, and Head of the Department of Learning and Leadership at UCL IOE. Professor Ang is also a world-leading expert in early childhood and primary education with research interests in early learning, educational, social and global inequalities, teacher education and professional practice, workforce development, and the interdisciplinary fields of early childhood and international development. She is Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts (FRSA) and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS) in recognition of her outstanding research and scholarship as a globally distinguished social scientist. She is recipient of the prestigious National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) award 2025 and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (PHEA) in recognition of her outstanding impact and contributions in Education and educational practice in the UK and internationally. In 2023, Lynn was appointed Assessor with the Office for Students (OfS). Lynn鈥檚 appointment as Deputy Chair of the UK REF 2029 People and Diversity Advisory Panel in 2024 is evidence of her highly regarded professional standing in academia and the Higher Education sector.
Professor Ang's outstanding and extensive research spans four continents, through established partnerships with national and international collaborators in both the Global North and Global South including the UK, USA, Singapore, Japan, Bhutan, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Senegal, Kenya, South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Lynn has led and co-led major grants with an extensive grants portfolio of over 30 funded awards worth c拢24.7M. Lynn鈥檚 research interests include social and educational inequalities in the early years, teacher education and professional practice, workforce development, and the interdisciplinary fields of early childhood education, child health and early development. Over the last two decades, the impact and reach of Lynn鈥檚 research has contributed to new paradigmatic shifts and theoretical advances in the early childhood education field, evidenced most notably by the development of a new pedagogical model – the SHREC approach that was scaled-up across 112 preschool settings and 32 boroughs in England to enhance teacher professional development and improve educational equity in the early years. Lynn was also instrumental in developing the first Commonwealth Early Childhood Education policy toolkit working with the UK Commonwealth Secretariat that was rolled out to 56 Commonwealth Countries; and her research informed a new conceptualisation for a UNESCO global resource on early childhood development and peacebuilding conceptual framework to inform a UN Resolution.
