Person
I am a James McCune Smith Scholar and PhD researcher within the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. My research is situated at the vital intersections of race, gender, and class, with a specific focus on the lived experiences of Black girls in English secondary schools.
My doctoral thesis explores the nuanced ways in which Black girls agitate, disrupt, and resist racialised and gendered oppression. To navigate these multidimensional experiences, I employ Critical Race Theory (CRT), Intersectionality, and Black Feminism as my primary theoretical frameworks. As a dedicated qualitative researcher, I believe the most profound insights come from the stories and experiences of others.
Before transitioning into academia, I spent over 20 years as a secondary school teacher, primarily as a Subject Leader in Religious Studies. This extensive frontline experience informs my research, providing me with a unique "ground-up" perspective on systemic educational structures.
