Nicola Tierney is a senior lecturer in Primary Education at St Mary鈥檚 University, specialising in Primary mathematics. Nicola joined higher education after teaching in primary school sfor 13 years in Asia, Europe and the UK. She trained as a teacher at the University of New England in Australia where she also completed a MEd in International Schooling, Education and Development. She has worked with the NCETM providing training for Early Career Teachers through the London SW Maths Hub. She is passionate about altering perceptions of mathematics and their impact on how it is taught and learned.
Nicola has been a member of the FHEA since 2021 and has undertaken small-scale research projects into assessment practices and the impact of Epistemic Insight on pre-service teachers. She is currently a doctoral student at St Mary鈥檚 focusing on how patterns of communication in primary mathematics classrooms affect views of mathematics.
