Philip Brunton, Mr

NPQ Teacher, Primary Lead at New Barn School

Phil Brunton is a teacher with more than 20 years’ experience across mainstream and alternative provisions. After training as a secondary Geography teacher at Southampton University in 2003, he taught Humanities and Literacy at key stage 3 before moving to primary education. Phil also gained experience supporting young adults with extreme learning difficulties through Southdown Housing.
In 2018, he joined a new all-through school for high-functioning pupils with autism, starting with just a dozen students. He has continued teaching in Primary education and played a lead role in establishing the first nurture groups for pupils struggling to access mainstream provision. He is currently the literacy lead in Primary, and they have recently celebrated reaching capacity with more than 100 students.
