Dr Shaalan Farouk is a senior lecturer in psychology at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD). Before taking up his current position, Shaalan taught at University College London (UCL), Institute of Education on the doctoral programme in Applied Educational Psychology. In addition, he worked for many years as a senior educational psychologist for various London boroughs, specialising in supporting teachers and providing therapy for adolescents, their families and schools.
At NYUAD Shaalan teaches Abnormal Psychology, Psychotherapy and Counselling, and the Unconscious Mind. His area of expertise is Narrative Psychology, and he is particularly interested in how narrative therapy and intervention can be applied in schools to prevent the permanent exclusion of adolescents from mainstream education.
