Dr Wendy Conrad is a senior lecturer in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities at the University of Derby. Having spent almost 20 years working as a classroom teacher firstly in mainstream secondary then in special needs secondary schools as a teacher, her research reflects some of the challenges encountered as a professional in the field. Her doctoral work studied the dilemmas faced by families seeking refugee or asylum who have children with special educational needs entering the education systems for the first time.
