Sensitive GenAI Practices in Global Education Contexts

Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming education globally, yet its use remains uneven and context dependent. This event focuses on sensitive GenAI practices, highlighting how educational use of AI must respond to diverse cultural, linguistic, and contextual realities.

Sensitive GenAI practices refer to the design and use of AI systems that are context-aware, recognising cultural norms, languages, identities, and local educational traditions. Current GenAI systems are largely shaped by Western-centric, English-dominant datasets, which can lead to misrepresentation, bias, or exclusion of local knowledge. In global education contexts, particularly across the Global South, this raises critical questions about relevance, equity, and the preservation of cultural and educational identities.

This event aims to:

  • Introduce what sensitive and context-aware GenAI practices look like in real global educational settings
  • Explore how GenAI can respect and adapt to local cultures, languages, and pedagogies
  • Identify risks related to bias, misrepresentation, and loss of identity
  • Share region-specific practices that support inclusive and responsible GenAI use

Why Attend?
Participants will gain insights into how GenAI can be implemented in ways that are culturally responsive, ethically grounded, and contextually relevant, moving beyond one-size-fits-all approaches. They will also have the opportunity to engage in collaborative discussion with speakers and contribute to cross-regional dialogue.

Speakers
The session features speakers from diverse global regions, including the Middle East and South Asia, presenting case-based examples of how GenAI is being critically and responsibly integrated within their local educational contexts, followed by a cross-regional panel discussion.
