Upcoming event Part of series: Writing to Publication Series

Writing to Publication Series – How to get Published

Having a strong publication record is a requirement for all academic staff, yet working out how to achieve publication and where to submit work can seem elusive, daunting and sometimes unattainable. While there is no universal formula for getting published, there are useful steps that aspiring authors can consider to increase their chances of a successful outcome.  This workshop is about supporting you to achieve your publication aims and will be particularly helpful to those in the early stages of their publication career.  The workshop is primarily focused on writing for academic journals. It will cover the following:

  • Tips for writing your article – structure, locating your article in the literature, methodology, use of theory and presentation of findings
  • The merits of co-authorship and single authorship
  • The importance of peer feedback – before you submit your article.
  • Writing a quality article – significance, rigour and originality.
  • An overview of journal processes – submission, peer review, possible outcomes.
  • Dealing with peer review feedback – especially when this offers conflicting advice.
  • Processes and actions once your article is accepted and published.

At the end of the session, you will have a clearer understanding of what is required to get your research published.
