Emma Rawlings Smith, Dr

Lead Researcher at Aqa

Emma is Lead Researcher at AQA and spends her time focused on research on educational assessment for the largest exam board in the UK. Prior to this, Emma has worked as a geography teacher educator and researcher in Higher Education and as a school geography teacher and middle leader (11-18 geography) in the UK and abroad. Emma's research interests include geography education, student transitions to university and the professional learning and identity of educators. Emma is a Chartered Geographer (& assessor thereof) for the Royal Geographical Society and her expertise has been recognised with the Geographical Association's Distinguished Service Award 2025. Emma has recently taken up the role of ½¿É«µ¼º½ CAP SIG Convenor and is excited to continue the important conversations about the inter-related areas of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the four nations and beyond.
