Gert Biesta is Professor of Public Education in the Centre for Public Education and pedagogy at Maynooth University, Ireland, and Professor of Educational Theory and Pedagogy in the Moray House School of Education and Sport, University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His work focuses on the theory of education and the philosophy of educational and social research, with a particular interest in teaching, teacher education, citizenship education, arts education, religious education and education policy. Since 2023 he is an appointed member of the Education Council for the Netherlands (Onderwijsraad), the constitutional advisory body of the Dutch government and parliament on educational matters. Recent books include World-Centred Education: A View for the Present (Routledge, 2021) and The New Publicness of Education: Democratic Possibilities after the Critique of Neo-Liberalism (co-edited with Carl Anders S盲fstr枚m, Routledge, 2023). So far, his work has appeared in 22 different languages.
