Miles Smith, Mr

Associate Dean of Education at Plymouth Marjon University

Miles Smith is Associate Dean for Academic Partnerships at Plymouth Marjon University. He has worked in education for more than 25 years, including English Language Teaching in East Asia and London, mainstream primary education as a teacher and senior leader, and higher education at Marjon, where he has led and taught on the Primary Education BA and held leadership roles in the School of Education. As the first in his family to attend university, Miles brings a personal commitment to widening participation and advancing opportunities for underrepresented groups. In his role as Marjon鈥檚 Athena Swan chair, he works to embed equality and equity across teaching, leadership and research. This same commitment underpins his PhD, in which he co-researches with children to explore their experiences of learning history in primary school, enabling them to act as investigators and interpreters of their own experiences, with agency and empowerment.
