Critical Conversations in Education – ½¿É«µ¼º½ AGM, Awards and Keynote lecture

We invite you to join us for the annual ½¿É«µ¼º½ AGM, Awards and Keynote lecture in London!

To kick off the event, we will hear from the ½¿É«µ¼º½ Committee Chairs who will give us an update on ½¿É«µ¼º½ activities and finances throughout the year.

The AGM papers are available to download at the bottom of this page.

This will then lead into our keynote, Professor Heike Wendt, delivering a talk on:
Teaching for Tomorrow: Education for Sustainability Across Europe
Environmental issues are among the most urgent challenges facing future generations, and education plays a vital part in tackling them. Developing the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for sustainability should begin in primary school, yet research on this topic is limited in Europe. Recent international studies, including the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 2019 and 2023, provide new insights into the environmental knowledge and awareness of primary school pupils. This keynote will present these results in a European context, emphasising the high value placed on environmental education by both teachers and students, and highlighting the need for teaching methods that foster analytical and critical thinking, as well as a sense of agency. Furthermore, it will critically reflected the extent to which large-scale assessments can be used as a monitoring tool.

This event will also feature our annual awards ceremony to highlight some of this year’s winners and their work, as well as the achievements and successes of the academic research community. ½¿É«µ¼º½ offers over £80,000 of awards and opportunities annually and this occasion presents an opportunity to celebrate those recipients.

This will then be followed by our ‘In Conversation with…’ lecture. This year, we are delighted that Professor Heidi Safia Mirza, Emeritus Professor of Equality Studies in Education at UCL Institute of Education, will be joining us.

This event is FREEÌý´Ú´Ç°ùÌý½¿É«µ¼º½ Members to attend.
